Mayor of Waltham Forest Charity Appeal 2016-2017
Sunday 26 March 2017, Waltham Forest Majlis organised a local CWFP to support local Mayor’s Charity .
The venue was a local school, made available free of charge by the Mayor. 230 people participated in the walk. The walk started at 11 am with silent prayer as well as a one-minute silence observed in memory of the victims of the tragic Westminster attacks on Wednesday 23rd.
The Mayor cut the ribbon and officially opened the walk. It was a 5k walk. The weather was very nice. All walkers were given CWFP hi-vis jackets. The walk passed our local mission house, Baitul Ahad (Walthamstow), which was the official halfway point, where refreshments were provided – a bottle of water and a banana.
The walk went through a busy high street and Sunday market and was well received by the locals. At 1 pm the walk finished and the final ceremony was held. It was chaired by Mubashir Siddiqi, Regional Nazim. Tilawat was by Arif Khan Sahib, the local Murabbi. The Mayor thanked the organizers and appreciated the AMEA for organizing this walk for his charity. The Redbridge Mayor also attended the walk.
Regional Nazim thanked all the participants and local Murabbi Sahib led the silent prayer, followed by lunch.
The local Guardian covered the story click here. So far, we have collected approximately £1500 for the Mayor’s charities and hope that this will increase in the next few days. Inshallah by the middle of next month, we will organise a ceremony in our local mosque and will present the cheque to the Mayor.
